According to my 3years working experience as a TV news editor, I have experienced the change from linear editing to non-linear editing, from a single broadcast-style to join some interactive elements from the computer and internet. I feel that the technology innovation is a powerful driving force to break the traditional pattern. Since I have been many types of duties, such as cameraman, video clipping, Subtitles editing and Program Director, I deeply know how important the integration technology is.

Moreover, during my 3rd year of university, I had used a software application which helps the students to create the digital electronic circuit. This software application, which is like a simulation modeling application, can be used to try out many designs and possible models before we really build up the physical electronic circuit. Therefore, it saved a lot of time and resources during the period of trial and error. For teachers, such software applications also can make a subject more simply and understandably, especially to those abstract subjects.

In my Degree study in CityU, I use Blackbroad (another Learning Managament Systems) to download lecture notes ONLY(most of the teacher do not use these functions). As a Information Engineering students, I had spend some time on using Linux(Another Operation system rather than MS one) and do some programming on it and that all!! Those skill we need were learn by ourself when we think we need. Teachers seldom use technology even YouTube Video in their teaching.

In this program, our program make a good use of technology in teaching.
    1. In Moodle, rather than notes I can found relevant material from teacher and other students, also different plug-in in it can help us to do the same thing in our traditional teaching process.
    2. Different software like Second Life and online learning platform had been introduce in 6311. Even we do not have time to taste all of time, I know that I can embed different technology in my teaching and let students have a complete idea on a topic.

On the other hand in my part time job as a computer magazine reporter, I had tried and introduced many different software and hardware(most are digital camera)which can help us to enhance our life.

I had focus on writing in several topics before, Office 2007, freeware and Windows recovery.

My experience with IT in education is as a classroom teacher. Some of the applications of IT that I am familiar with are:

    * Interactive Whiteboards - I use a promethean whiteboard and am responsible for staff training.
    * Moodle - this year our schools are replacing the current online learning environment with Moodle. One day a week I am involved in the development of the sites and staff training.
    * Our school has a good network and a lot of IT equipment for teachers and students. We use the computers and other devices on a daily basis to enhance the teaching and learning across the school.

I am most interested in developing my understanding and skills in effectively using IT to enhance education.

During undergraduate time, I used to be interested in playing with software like Microsoft Movie Maker, Zinemaker, Photoshop, Flash, and POCO. Totally enjoy the feeling of combine text, pictures, voices, music and videos together to form a new creature.

After being a postgraduate student in HKU, I refreshed my view in multi-media application in education. Especially the idea of eLearning shocks me a lot. I definitely knew the power of computer and internet before but never couldn't imagine the ripple effect they may cause to traditional education system. Even a small trial application of new technology could be magnified into a big incredible effect on students as well as teachers. I know it's the right time to bring education the beauty of Hi-Tech tools.

In the last few months, I has taken 6311-elearning strategies and management, and 6025-methods of research and enquiry. The former course becomes a abecedarian for me in knowing eLearning while the latter one leads me to explore the process of adopting Moodle in a group of people. From being a green-hand into Moodle to thoroughly designing an independent course by using it, I've been through a valley of eLearning where flows IMS, SCORM, learning object, different types of CMSs, SOLO taxonomy, PBL and LP,CMC, CoPs, Sloodle, etc. They were totally new to me once upon a time, but now I could talk about them like mentioning familiar friends.

I do experience myself how to learn through the help of internet to reach a different interesting and powerful world. Hope someday I could help other youth to know it.

  5. It is very happy to read Jacky's comment. As a system engineer, I feel quite difficult to link with this course. But Jacky lead me to some other direction, so that I could understand those pedagogies and apply them more easily.
