  4. Under Behaviorism, learners are programmed. Teachers use stimulus to guide and form learners' new or changed behaviors.

Cognitivism is a information processing model which develops in response to behaviorism. Brain process information and information could last as short-term or long-term memory.Teachers have to deal with information properly so that students could store them effectively in brain for later recall.

Constructivism is about learner engagement. It believes in real learning is long-term memory and when learners are able to build up their own knowledge by pulling out previous experiences and connect them with new concepts, they learn the best. This happens easily when learners are working, learning, communication with each other together.

  5. (Joe) So an understanding of the different learning theories will allow teachers to design learning experiences that meet the needs of learners. When we want to learn simple technical skills, behaviourism may be appropriate however when we want to learn more complex concepts constructivism may be more appropriate.

  6. It seems that using any single learning theory can not achieve the best learning results. A complete and effective learning process may follow a simple track like this: instructivist from teachers->students’ response and remember (Behaviorism)->students translate the knowledge into their own cognition (Cognitivism)->combining with previous knowledge and experience to format personal knowledge construction (Constructivism).
